Program Overview:

The energy savings potential of a properly insulated building is well understood.  However, as design professionals work to maximize the thermal resistance of wall assemblies and reduce wall section thickness, insulation is being positioned both in the stud wall and on the exterior side of the wall assembly.  This split insulation concept, has introduced several design concerns related to fire resistance and the drying potential of wall assemblies.  This program will focus on the unique properties of mineral wool insulation and how it can improve the wall assembly performance related to thermal, fire, water, and sound control.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define what mineral wool insulation is.

  • Identify the difference between mineral wool, glass fiber, and foam insulation.

  • Explain the key features and value added benefits of mineral wool.

  • Sustainable aspects of mineral wool.

  • List the applications for mineral wool in commercial buildings and low slope roofing.

  • Code Changes of the IBC Chapter 26 and the testing standards of NFPA 285.

Facilitator Qualifications:

  • All Roxul Inc CES facilitators have been trained on CES guidelines and presentation skills.

Method of Delivery:

  • The CES facilitator utilizes a PowerPoint presentation to provide an in-depth overview of mineral wool insulation.

Audio/Visual required:

  • Laptop and projector. (The CES facilitator supplies the laptop and projector unless other arrangements have been made before the day of the presentation.)

Cost to participants:

  • There is no cost to bring this program into your firm or chapter meeting.

Target Audience:

  • Architects, specifiers, owners, contractors, and other design professionals.  Ideal audience can be 1 to over 100.  This program meets every experience level with time designed in the program for questions and answers.
